Introducing the SL19 Area Light: A Clean Solution for Open-Space Down Lighting

At Sterling Lighting, we design with intention — creating solutions that address the challenges lighting designers face in the field. The new SL19 Area Light was created for just that: delivering elegant, grounded down lighting in spaces where traditional mounting options don't exist.

Whether you're illuminating a patio, creating perimeter definition, or adding subtle overhead lighting to open beds and walkways, the SL19 Area Light offers a streamlined, alternative to tree, post, or structure mounting — without sacrificing performance.

Born from Collaboration

The SL19 Area Light didn’t start on a whiteboard — it started in the field. During a design session at our Sterling Summit, Sterling Lighting co-founder Patrick Harders and renowned lighting designer Eleftheria Deko were creating a showcase lighting design and installation. With no vertical surface available, they mounted two SL19 Niche Lights to a simple wooden post to achieve the effect they needed. Eleftheria looked at it, turned to Patrick, and said, "You should just make this light." So we did. The result is a purpose-built luminaire that fills a real gap — one identified not in a meeting, but in the creative process of two award winning lighting designers.

The SL19 Area Light is available in two heights — 19" and 36" — and two configurations:

A one-light model for focused applications
A two-light model for broader, even coverage

Both versions are designed with a sleek vertical profile that blends cleanly into the landscape during the day — and performs with precision after dark.

Every element of the SL19 Area Light was considered with the designer and installer in mind:

Built from marine grade virgin brass designed to withstand the elements and disappear into the design.
Engineered with a patented glare-reducing lens to keep light where it belongs -- and off the stem.
