Want to learn more about the CLVLT exam? Below is more information about this national certification program.
What is the CLVLT?
The Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP) created the Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) program as a national standard examination for certifying low voltage lighting technicians. This program resulted from a need in the industry and lack of national standards specifically tailored for outdoor lighting technicians in 12-volt systems. AOLP's mission is to establish standards, educate industry professionals, and increase awareness of the outdoor lighting industry.
Per the AOLP "Throughout the United States, there are no clearly defined national standards for low voltage outdoor lighting. In most states, the test given to license low voltage contractors has little or nothing to do with the actual work that they perform. AOLP feels this lack of standards has a profound impact on the safety and quality of services that we provide."
Who should take the CLVLT exam?
The CLVLT exam is intended for experienced landscape lighting technicians. It is recommended that applicants have several years of experience in the low voltage lighting industry.
What does the CLVLT exam cover and what does the test consist of?
The CLVLT exam measures the knowledge and capabilities of lighting technicians, specifically for 12-volt systems. The test consists of a written exam and seven half-hour labs.
What study materials are available to prepare for the CLVLT exam?
Although there is no training prior to testing, you will be provided self-study materials in advance and participate in hands-on labs on the day of the exam. Upon receiving a passing grade, applicants will obtain their Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT) listing.
How can I register to take the CLVLT exam?
